Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you have probably heard of Twitter. It is a rocking hot social networking site that seems to be to be used by almost everyone today. It’s on the news, on the radio and on the minds of thousands of people everywhere, every single day.

There are many different types of people on Twitter. But, most of these people are on Twitter for a single reason. They want people to know about them. They want to connect with people. Lots of people.

Did you know that there are Twitter Rules for marketing and business success in what you do. I am a marketer and have been for many years. In the last few years my business has been expanding by leaps and bounds, because of social media and the internet. But, there are rules that all marketers must follow if they are going to have success in the marketplace, especially online.

Here are the 7 Simple Rules to Success on Twitter:

1) The Rule of Visibility on Twitter.

You absolutely MUST be visible on Twitter if you are going to get your message out to the masses. You must spend time on Twitter and get to know people. You must put yourself together a “Twitter Blueprint” and then work that bluprint every day. How many hours a day are you going to be seen on Twitter? How many people are you going to follow this week? How many times are you going to Tweet this week? How many direct replies will you make? All of these things make you “visible” on Twitter. Be seen and be heard. Be there on a daily basis.

2) The Rule of a Powerful Twitter Profile.

Why would people want to get to know you on Twitter? One of the first things they will check out is your Twitter profile. What does it say, or better yet, what does it do? Does it make people curious and want to get to know you? Does it make them smile? Does it make them think? Does it make them see that you have value for their life and perhaps can help change it?
Powerful Twitter profiles are NOT based on what is said in your profile, but on what your profile DOES. Does it direct them to DO something? Does it tell them you are a person they really need to get to know? Put yourself OUT THERE and tell the world why they need you as a friend, and get them to take some action towards YOU.

3) The Rule of Twittering.

You MUST use Twitter to market or to share your message. Many people regard Twitter as a communication utility much like an email. It is not! Twitter is a method for you to build – MESSAGE BY MESSAGE – FOLLOW BY FOLLOW – PHOTO BY PHOTO – VIDEO BY VIDEO – your brand on Twitter. Every time something happens with you, Twitter about it. Don’t just look at Twitter, get your messages out there and be seen. Answer the messages on Twitter. Thank people for sharing their Tweet with you. This will show up on their Twitter and even more people will see you. This will set you apart from most people on Twitter. Twitter is basically a billboard of what you and your friends are doing on Twitter. So use it often and use it wisely. Don’t forget that everyone is watching what you say.

4) The Rule of Twitter Networking.

You are part of a Twitter and you have access to that huge network of people to become their friend and business partner. You can live anywhere and have access to this huge audience. There are literally thousands of people on Twitter that you could potentially meet and then get to know and connect with. You can find local Twitterers as well. You will find that Twitter is a gold mine of people to connect with and build trust with. This may lead to business down the road. So go Twitter now!

5) The Rule of Twitter Direct Messages.

This can be an overlooked and rarely talked about Twitter tool. Direct messages are part of your “Twitter System.” Go to Direct Messages in your sidebar. This is a list of people who are thinking about you, talking about you, including you and connecting with you. This is a goldmine of people that have proven that they are behind you and willing to make you a part of their Twitter experience. Pay attention to your Twitter messages. Thank them for their thoughts and let them know you appreciate it. Reply back to them whenever possible. The Direct Messages are gold and can be a prospecting Vault of valuable leads. Make sure you stay connected to them.

6) The Rule of Twitter Pictures and Videos.

Sharing photos and videos on Twitter is HOT. People love photos and videos. The Tweets with photos and videos are the most looked at and watched Tweets on Twitter. Make some videos and upload them. Upload some photographs. Not only will they be seen, but they will also be Re-Tweeted many times. This means that you can pick out Tweets you like and share them with others. Now isn’t that cool? It is called exposure! It allows you to post a photo or video that you like and then it sends it out for all of Twitter to see. It shares the image that you want and allows everyone to see a glimse into your personal life. It helps people see you as a real person and not just a website, so share some of your personal life on Twitter. Find interesting photos and videos of others and send them out as well. People love to look at pictures and watch videos. Use this to your advantage.It will build exposure for you.

7) The Rule of Twitter Search.

When you do a Twitter search, it is going to bring you a list of people who have a lot in common with you. Just go to search.Twitter.com and type in what you are searching for. You’ll find a lot of other Twitterers who are Tweeting about what interests you. You can build a list in your own area of expertise and then you can send Twitter direct messages to them. Make sure they are messages of value and interest. Show them that you are an expert in this field. This gives you huge exposure. Whatever you do, like posting a message, uploading a video or photo, writing and publishing an article, or just commenting on another person’s message on the Twitter, it will show up on Twitter. Be seen, and be seen often if you are trying to brand yourself on Twitter.

You need to establish relationships and build a community to market to. But, if you are going to market on Twitter, then you need to at least get a blueprint of how and when to do it. If you’re an avid internet enthusiast, then I’m sure you have heard about affiliate marketing at least once or twice before.

See how sellers operate their business. Start by checking their homepage for these attributes: product pages should keep customers well-informed and uncluttered, or even has its own reliable customer service.

• Does the business owner provide a way for you to fully launch a marketing campaign?
• Are the prices within the reach of the average consumer?

If you’re market is fairly small but substantial, you won’t need to do much for customers to come to you. A huge market would be great only if you promote a wide spectrum of products and services within your theme. To become an effective affiliate marketer, select products and services that you think is best for your target market and niche marketing efforts.

3. Conduct your own keyword research

An effective affiliate marketer can only attract followers if he or she uses the right tools. Web analytics can give you what you need in terms of tracking and monitoring, but before that your online business needs keywords.

That’s right, obtaining the right keywords for your products and services can be the first real step in marketing them. These keywords should be what your possible customers are using to search your products. Choose keywords that have high searches with less competition.

One tip is to prefer using exact phrases instead single keywords to match certain needs of your target market that will likely lead them to your product website.

4. Create your affiliate marketing website

Now’s the time to get a domain name and hosting account (Knowing which keywords to use for targeting can help you in selecting your website’s domain name). You need to make certain that your website will be on the top of search results to gain attention of consumers.

For that to happen, incorporate your keywords into your domain name, and check if using these can help your website appear frequently on the first few pages, if not the very first result on search engines. Get a domain name that’s product friendly, user friendly and search engine friendly for it to be a rock-star domain.

5. Grow your affiliate marketing website

It doesn’t end with registering the domain. What’s next is to structure your website in such a way that it appeals to online shoppers, and don’t make the mistake of designing your website around a shopping directory or product index. Instead, focus on establishing a presence first, drawing curiosity and providing relevant content.

Similar to a website for hobbyists that generates their awareness because of shared interests, your website should catch the eye of your customers.

6. Produce kick-ass articles

These articles are written to promote product purchases but should be fresh, remarkable and engaging for your customers to read.

Remember to utilize your keywords in each article to help it land high on the search results. Make these quite short and easy to read so as not to bore your customers.

You can choose to submit these to well-known article directories such as ezinearticles.com, articlesbase.com and goarticles.com to encourage more hits.

7. Link back to other sites

The secret to a successful promotion is to connect with others online, just like how it is in real life, i.e. network around other affiliate marketers or other online merchants for your affiliate marketing website not to falter.

simply linking back to popular websites that may or may not be related to the products you sell. Encourage fellow marketers, bloggers and product reviewers to join forces and associate their sites with yours.

8. Promote, promote, promote

Do this nonstop to steer people towards your site. Link exchange is nothing new, but you can support this by launching an email campaign, maintaining online contacts, writing press releases, and doing search engine optimization.

Check out how pay per click ads or visiting various forums can help you. Either way, the only thing that matters is the more people get to know your website, the higher commissions you get.

9. Monitor your performance

Verify how your affiliate website is doing by carrying out tests on user activity and assessing results on your web analytics tools. See which promotions are helping you and stop doing those that do not contribute anything to your website so as not to waste your time.

You can easily see which search engines and keywords work best too, and start figuring out which ones to retain and to let go.

10. Don’t get anxious

Relax and let your website do the work. Reviewing data through analytics may be a bit nerve-wracking, but getting apprehensive in the first few weeks isn’t going to help.

Sit on it and allow ample time for the website to develop a following and sooner or later you’ll find yourself an audience.

Resolution: These baby steps are necessary; in fact, they will even be helpful in making you realize just how precious and difficult earning money is once you finally get ‘there’!

As I’ve mentioned, every other person who’s attempted to earn money online has gone through this phase.

With enough knowledge and experience, however, your efforts will finally pay off.

The Online Scams

There are far too many scams online.

In fact, you may have written a few articles that have gone unpaid or rendered a few services that have not been properly compensated.

But should these scams tear you down? Definitely not! In fact, they should even make you stronger and a lot more vigilant when making money online.

Resolution: The solution is simple: avoid online moneymaking scams. I’ve already explained to you how you can assess the legitimacy of an opportunity. The trick is to never let your guard down and always maintain a reasonable amount of doubt whenever transacting with a customer or client.

The Unpredictable Advancements

If you compare, Facebook’s current number of registered users isn’t even half as many as its registered users three years ago. That’s how fast the Internet changes – by the millions.

No one could have predicted the success of Internet marketing, but look at where it is now. The unpredictability of the Internet is exactly what makes making money online exciting – and difficult as well.

Resolution: Like me, always be on your toes. Subscribe to as many news feeds as possible. Be in touch with the latest technology. Whatever it takes, don’t let yourself get left behind! What’s profitable today will surely not be as profitable tomorrow.

What should be your weapon of choice in the fast changing Internet landscape? Being abreast and insatiably curious about the latest online moneymaking trends.

The Self-Defeating Mindset

What if I’m just wasting my time? How long do I have to wait until I get a reasonable amount of profits? Why is making money online so confusing?

The only way you can make these questions go away is by answering them. Unfortunately, many people take the negative route and believe that they will never earn online. This kind of self-defeating mindset is exactly what you should avoid!

Resolution: Stop being so pessimistic and drive all your energy into making money online instead! This mindset will only pull your drive down and stop you from discovering ways of how online moneymaking works so you might as well just do without them altogether.

This reason may not sound as problematic as the other reasons I’ve mentioned, but it’s exactly why a lot of people choose to use the Internet for things other than generating income from it! Just remember:

In the end, despite these difficulties, making money online is still better than living with a dead end job. Working online, whether as an entrepreneur or marketer, will give you more time for yourself and your family.

You even get to build your own career! On the other hand, a dead end job only promises retirement at the end of the road – if you don’t get laid off before you even get there! So yes, earning money online is not that easy and simple. But, once it pays off, it will definitely, most certainly pay off.

There are many ways of building a website, some of which are far more difficult and complex than others.

While at some point in the future you will want to move on from having a very basic site, that is the way you should start, because by doing so, you can keep the site creation process as simple as possible.

Keeping it simple…

In this situation, simple means quick and that in turn means that you can channel your efforts into promoting your business, which as I have already pointed out is the key to your success. Here is what you do…

Visit Squidoo and sign up for a new account. Squidoo is a very simple, modular site building program that is a big favorite of Google. Using Squidoo, the mini-site that you are about to create is known as a ‘lens’.

When you first log into your dashboard, you need to search for the button that will allow you to create a lens:

This action will bring you to the first step of the lens creation process. The screen will look something like this. As this lens is going to focus on autism, which should be the subject:

On the next page, you want to do your own thing (it gives you a far greater degree of control) so check the appropriate choice and go to the next stage:

On this next page, you have to choose a title for your lens. It will automatically use the ‘my lens is about’ information from the first page, but you should change this to reflect one of the primary keyword phrases that you found earlier using Word Tracker, in this case ‘services for teenagers with autism’:

On the next page, including three more key phrases that are appropriate to your subject, insert the captcha code and that is the lens ready to go:

That is it – the lens creation process is completed. All you now need to do is to populate your lens with content, the information that the targeted visitors who you bring to your website are going to be interested in reading and watching.

In the next screenshot, you can see what the lens creation page looks like. On the left hand side, you will note the main text area under the heading ‘Introduction, Contents and Discovery Tool’. This is where you are going to publish the information with which you are going to promote the autism related product that you discovered earlier at ClickBank.

The way you are going to do this is to write a review of the product itself, which you will then add to this area of the site before publishing. The reason that you do this is that this particular module of the site always appears at the top of the page, which is where you want your review to be every time a new visitor comes to your site.

Consequently, all of the other modules that you can add to your site (which highlighted in the right-hand side column) should be placed underneath this main product review:

In terms of the modules that you should add to your site, I have indicated the modules that I would use with a red check mark. By doing so, you can ensure that your site offers your visitors something of a multimedia experience, with video, information from eBay and Wikipedia, and so on.

Note that below the list of ‘quick start’ modules, there is a link to ‘Browse all modules’. Take a look here as well, because there are many more modules that you can add to your site in order to make it more attractive and informative.

Because you have added a ‘Guestbook’ module, you are offering any visitor who comes to your site the opportunity of leaving their comments. The more comments you have, the more popular your lens will become within the Squidoo community, and that equates to more visitors.

In other words, you have built a site that targeted visitors will find interesting, and that is the key to making sure that they stick around, read what you have to say, and hopefully follow your link from the product review to the sales page of the autism product you are promoting. When they do so, if they buy, you get paid.

You will also note that I have added the ‘Text with BIG picture’ module. This is something you should do (you can use the plain text module if you want) because having nothing more than your review on your site looks a little ‘spammy’ and unprofessional. If however you have additional text modules, this means that you can additional articles about your subject matter to your site, once again enhancing the experience of the visitor.

If you have the time, knowledge and inclination, it is best if you can write these articles yourself. However, there is nothing to stop you using other people’s articles from a major article directory site like EzineArticles as your content materials.

Visit the site and search for articles about your chosen subject:

Find some articles that you would like to republish on your own site, and look for the ‘Ezine Publisher’ link to the right of the article title:

From here, you can download the article and then republish it on your lens in its entirety, including (most importantly) the original author details and link. You could do this with as many articles as you want, so this would be a very quick and easy way of populating your site with content if you don’t have the time or the inclination to write your own materials.

If the only reason that you are not going to write your own materials is because you do not know the subject or topic particularly well, all you need to do is read a few EzineArticles articles and then rewrite them in your own words. The articles text is copyrighted, but the ideas and concepts behind them are not.

Write your review…

Although it is possible that you would be able to write a more accurate and informative review if you were to buy a product that you are promoting yourself, it is not absolutely necessary to do so. There are two ways that you can collect sufficient information to create your own review.

First, go through the ClickBank sales page and note down all of the major benefits. Remember that potential customers are only interested in what the product can do for them, so they want to know about benefits, not features. Generally speaking, you can usually find enough information on the sales page to write a reasonably good product review without doing anything else.

However, you might also want to search to see whether anybody else has already written a review, because that will make your job considerably easier. You do this by searching Google for ‘product name + review’ (or ‘reviews’), so if you are promoting a product called ABC123, your search would be for ‘ABC123 review’.

Between the sales page and other people’s reviews, you should have enough materials to write your own. Don’t make your review too gushingly complimentary about the product – add a couple of negatives to make the review appear more objective and unbiased.

However, in the final analysis, you should recommend it. When you do, make sure that you include a clear call to action (i.e. at the end of the review article, make sure that you tell your visitor that the product is highly recommended and that they must get their own copy), and tell them to click your link which must also be included.

Incidentally, you should not make it too obvious that your link goes to a product that you are promoting as an affiliate – something as innocuous as this would work far more effectively:

The HTML code that you would need to create a link like this (using a standard ClickBank style ‘hoplink’ which you should replace with your own) would be coded in this way:

Copy and paste this code at the bottom of your review page, add content from EzineArticles to several text units, add a few videos and materials on eBay, and the site should be fully ready to go.

However, don’t stop there. Come back every couple of days and add a new article (preferably one that you have written yourself), use the RSS feed module to keep your lens regularly updated and generally keep the site growing.

Google in particular loves Squidoo lenses, especially those where there is a regular supply of fresh, new (and ideally unique) content that you add, so keep Google happy and they will send traffic to your site. However, this is not enough traffic to make your business successful.

Consequently, traffic is the next (and perhaps most important) aspect of building your business.

2. You can monitor what people are saying about any person, company or brand. Twitter has a search engine that lets you do just this. You can set up Google Alerts to notify you when a new Twitter account is created with the keywords related to your marketing plan. You can set up a search for twitted phrases, which can suggest that a certain person might be interested in what you are promoting. Say you have a moneymaking product, search for people who tweet phrases like “I wish I were rich” or “I just lost a lot of money”. Of course this is a joke but you get the idea.

3. Build a relationship with your followers over time. Interact with your followers. Fist of all you need to share things with added value. Reply quickly to people and retweet tweets that are interesting and useful. Your bio is important, helping you establish your self as an expert in your niche. People like listening to experts.

Marketing Tips Using Twitter

1. Use a predetermined set of keywords, frequently in your tweets, so that even as your page gets updated and tweets get moved down the list, there is always a high probability that some of your keywords will be on your Twitter page.
2. You can decide on a certain time frame, only in which, you will promote a product or service, so people will not get annoyed at constant attempts to sell them stuff, only I that specific time frame, and also this can generate interest, while followers will remember that, for instance, every week, at a certain day and time for a period of a few hours, you will offer them great stuff to buy, while outside this time frame you will only interact with them on a consult basis, answering questions and posting valuable useful information.

Final thoughts you should consider:

• Twitter is must more simple and easy to use, even for people who don’t master even the basics of web than other social media tools like Facebook.
• Don’t be a spammer and try to promote many adverts in your tweets, with the hope of catching some. After a few irrelevant and annoying messages, people will no longer follow you and leave you.
