How to Make Money Using Craigslist

Internet users anywhere around the world know Craigslist as an online classified ads website that has a seller for just about anything they want or need.

If you’re one of them, then you obviously haven’t thought out of the box yet. Craigslist, for all that it is, is capable of doing many wonders to your income. The trick is in knowing how to make money using Craigslist.

THREE Reasons why You Should Make Money Using Craigslist

Craigslist claims to be more than just a website devoted to posting classified ads. There are other classified websites like Google Base and Adoos (which, unfortunately is limited to Canada), but Craigslist is much more popular. With the powerful features of this website, I can’t help but agree.

  1. For one, no other classified ads site offers its services as widely as Craigslist does. With only about 32 employees, Craigslist serves 50 countries – that’s 570 cities, to be exact.

Although other classified ads websites arguably serves as many, or even more, cities and countries, none of them is as active and well-updated as Craigslist is. In a month alone, the site has as much as 2 million postings.

  2. The simplicity of the website’s interface is also worth mentioning. Would you believe that since 2001, the layout of the website has not changed? Any adjustments done to the website were minimal and did not do anything to drastically alter how the website looks or works.

Just imagine what this means to any buyer: they can easily find what they are looking for and where the products or services you are selling are. At the same time, the site doesn’t take too long to download, which will save them time and impatience.

  3. Lastly, Craigslist is the only classified ads site that has as much as 49.4 million monthly visitors in the US, making it the 11th most popularly visited website in the country. In the world, it ranks 37th and is the most popular classified advertising community. As you probably noticed with my previous posts, where the people are is where the money is.

Here are some of the popular sections in Craigslist:

You can easily look at the ads in other countries, other US states and cities, or other popular cities!

TRIED and TESTED Ways to Make Money Using Craigslist

Since Craigslist is easily the most powerful network for classified ads virtually anywhere in the world, it deserves a full explanation of how exactly you can make money using Craigslist.

1. Sell and Resell Items

Let’s start with the simplest: why don’t you check on some of the things you no longer need and earn money off them? By reselling them online and writing a kick-ass copy along with it, you are bound to find a buyer looking for the exact same item you’re selling.

Selling your own items isn’t the only way to earn money with Craigslist. If you have the time and effort, you can even resell products that you find in the site. Many Craigslist resellers earn as much 15% margin of profit by buying a product sold in Craigslist and selling them for a higher price.

How do these resellers manage to pull this off? This involves prior research. This research is done to familiarize one’s self with the niche item. Once they get a good grip of how much a product is supposed to be sold—both brand new and used – in Craiglist, they know exactly how much people buy them.

The next step is to buy items in your chosen niche item. Don’t settle for the price by which it is being sold. As much as you can down, bring down the price to as much as 20%. Is this even possible? Admittedly, some sellers aren’t going to appreciate the fact that you’re trying to buy your item at a lower price (but there are plenty of sellers in immediate need of money).

Now, we’re down to the final step: reselling the item. So, in reselling products, just remember:

  • Research on a niche category / item
  • Buy the product for the lowest price possible
  • Write the best copy without hard selling
  • Sell it with a minimum 15% margin of profit

2. Sell your expertise

Another way for you to make money using Craigslist is by selling your expertise. Craigslist is an excellent avenue for getting jobs, just make sure you don’t get scammed by not getting paid for your services!

Here are some of the services you can offer in Craiglist. I’m going to stick to the ones that you can work on while you’re at home. As I’ve mentioned, there are so many benefits that you can gain by telecommuting.

  • Freelance writing services
  • Programmer or Web Analyst
  • Internships
  • Technical Support

There is so much more about yourself that you can advertise in Craigslist. To be sure, stick to the ones that you are an expert at. The hiring process in Craigslist is rather basic. If you’re looking for a job yourself, you can customize your search.

Once you find the jobs that fit you, there is usually an instruction in every ad as to how you can send your application in. You can also make your resume searchable by posting it in the resume section of your Craigslist locality.

In no time, you will surely find a job that will help you make money using Craigslist.

3. Introduce your business

Last but not the least, you can make Craigslist a means to get your little business get known! A little free ad gets a long way; all you have to do is start posting in the niche category of your business within your local area.

This will make your business get locally known by people actively looking for what your business is all about.
