Top 4 Tools Help You with Time Management

Time is both the worst and the best thing about earning money online. By opting to have a fulltime job or business online, you are totally in control of your time.

The decision of when you need and want to work, as well as how long are going to work, is totally up to you. You don’t have to waste time going to and from the office, and you have more time to spend with your loved ones provided that you are done with your work.

It sounds all too ideal, doesn’t it? Earning money online can indeed be perfect… until a big problem creeps in: time management.

The worst thing about freelancing, especially if you don’t know if you’ve been used to working a 9 to 5 job, is how to manage your time properly. Sometimes, the situation can get so out of hand that you virtually don’t know how to accomplish all your work tasks at hand.

For that reason, we are going to talk about a few time management tools that can help make freelancing and earning money online a breeze. The best thing about these tools is that it can fit your mobile lifestyle.

Making money online doesn’t need to be confined in the four corners of the office. You can work at your favorite coffee shop, on your bed, or even while you’re on your vacation! They are also simple and easy, you don’t have to wrack your brains trying to understand each one.

Online Calendar

You need an online calendar to track appointments and meetings online. As you earn money online, you may find yourself having difficulty remembering all the dates and deadlines you have to keep. This is especially true for freelances who have multiple clients. Keeping a calendar that will remind you of what you need to do at a specific date and time will help you with your time management problems.

An online calendar is only fitting for online moneymaking, and there are many free and excellent services that can help you with this. Three of the most popular ones are the Google Calendar, Yahoo Calendar, and 30 Boxes.

The first two online calendars are linked with your account, so accessing them should not be a problem. 30 Boxes, on the other hand, is simple and very easy to manage. Below is a screenshot:

Time Calculator

In your time management efforts, a time calculator may be exactly what you need. LeechBlock will help you block the sites that prevent you from being productive. You can count in social networking sites that do not do anything to improve your productivity and even bog down your concentration.

You can also place in the time frame for the blockage of these sites—hence the term time calculator. LeechBlock is a Firefox plug-in, which will obviously require you to use Firefox as your web browser.

Another time calculator that you might need is 8aWeek. Once installed, it will give you a rundown of the sites you have visited and how long you have stayed in those sites. This will give you an idea of which sites you are visiting the most, and if such sites are productive or counterproductive.

If they are not helping you perform your job well at all, then maybe it’s time to block them as you work.

To-Do Lists

Sometimes, a calendar isn’t enough to keep track of what you need to do. This is where a to-do list comes in. You can create comprehensive to-do lists, as well as their respective deadlines with a to-do list manager. There are literally dozens in the Internet, but only a few ones are worth mentioning.

One of them is Vitalist. As a web-based software, you no longer need to install the software and make it eat your disk space. Instead, you can log into their website and into your account. After doing so, you can start creating actions and place them in categories (You can also sort them by priority).

This is excellent for freelance writers who have articles from different clients lined up. You can organize them according to priority and categorize them based on the niche topic. You can also install it in your mobile device or iPhone, allowing you to be productive while on the roll.

Project Management

If you’re working in groups, collaboration can be a lot more difficult than you imagine. This is where a project management program comes in handy. There are two services worth mentioning in this regard: Wiki.com and Base Camp.

By creating your own wiki, you can create pages and collaborate with your teammates. This is especially important for open source projects or when performing a group research. Wiki.com offers their services free, which will allow you to cut costs.

On the other hand, Base Camp is a web-based project collaboration tool that will not only allow you to upload your research and codes, but also create tasks, calendars, and to-do lists. Although you should pay for its services, you can try it out first for free and see if it meets your time management needs.

With these four tools, time management will not necessarily be easy at once. You have to use them strategically. Not all of them may work for you, so pick the ones that suit your needs most. After all, making money online is all about being your own boss.

If it weren’t for the trouble of going and arriving to an office, I would prefer it rather than work at home. When working at home I have all kind of disturbances and why not temptations. When I used to go to work I had nothing to do but work there, but at home I always find something urgent to do and I find myself doing things that are not really necessary or really distracting. Plus, when you are your own boss, you afford to get up late, take the day off and so on…
